Digitalization of the waterway: AutonomSOW II project successfully launched
Other partners are Berliner Hafen- und Lagerhausgesellschaft mbH (BEHALA),
the Bundesverband Öffentlicher Binnenhäfen e.V. (BÖB) from Berlin, the Department of Design & Operation of Maritime Systems at the Technical University of Berlin as well as the Institute
for Communication and Navigation of the DLR from Neustrelitz and LUTRA GmbH (Port of Königs Wusterhausen). The project is being funded by the German Federal Ministry of Transport and
Digital Infrastructure within the framework of the Modernization Fund (mFUND) with a total of 1.5 million euros.
While digitalization is already well advanced in the transport of goods by road, the transport of goods by waterway is still lagging behind in this respect.
For better integration into multi-modal supply chains and further shifting to waterways, port operators and logistics companies need reliable data on the arrival times of goods.
Shipowners and shippers depend on more precise information about transport times and capacities, and waterway operators want to route traffic safely, ecologically
and efficiently over their infrastructure.
The goal of the project AutonomSOW II (German) is to derive this information through a combined evaluation of data on the waterway,
the traffic volume and the transport process
and to make it available to the actors involved in the transport process on the Spree-Oder waterway via a platform. Furthermore,
novel algorithms and systems for the acquisition of real-time data on the traffic situation, the waterway and the energy consumption of the transport carrier are being developed and tested.
About the BMVI's mFUND: As part of the mFUND research initiative, the BMVI has been funding research and development projects related to data-based digital applications for Mobility 4.0 since 2016.
In addition to financial support, the mFUND also supports networking between stakeholders from politics, industry and research with various event formats and access to the mCLOUD data portal.
